I never had an experience with theater before I came to LAHSA I was kind of nervous cuz I don't know what to do I don't have no I don't have no practice I was a troublemaker and my first year of high school I saw some Seniors building some set and my dream was to show my skills the teachers actually show them and now as a senior I have those two sets for the school so if I cancel a stye hello dear experience and now that I'm leaving LAHSA and now I can live with the fact that I was the main role of women after we graduate I I want to major in nursing so I think me having a voice coming from you know acting and our boys class I think it's great because of the fact that I have that fear of like okay what should I do Peter program for the past three years and lost but I've learned not only the obvious about acting but more about myself how to come out of my comfort zone how to speak to people and how to work with them Los Angeles High School of the Arts part of the RFK community schools also known as lhasa is a public school that integrates of college preparatory curriculum in conjunction with dramatic and Technical theatre arts at the end of their freshman year students are given a choice of two theater Pathways and performance what Design Tech followed by three years with the other professionals and mentors to develop a working professional portfolio I was in the August Wilson monologue competition this all 11th graders are required they learned a piece from August will 10 plays so we had 3 last the kids go from the preliminary to the semifinals and then I made it from the semi-finals to the regional finals Productions each year theater company with students in the technical Theatre program designing and constructing costumes as well as previous experience opportunity to the neighborhoods of economically disadvantaged students who historically have little access to the are 95% of the federal poverty line to go with little to no English-speaking experience well challenges are like when I first came I didn't know the language world so that was like a sucker for me and for any student that come from and I have a 3 year old daughter so I have to go home and I have to you know be a teen mother and I have to you know how my responsibilities as a parent and as you know a teenager an English curriculum for two long project each year lhasa is one of three LAUSD LinkedIn learning certified schools the technical theater program introduces students to engineering Concepts real world application of math and computer aided in 2014 70% of the graduating class was accepted to a 4-year School currently we're at California Institute of the Arts directions for theater Salata is actually where I started my career once I got here I realized that a lot of the things that I was learning I wasn't actually learning them I was just reviewing since I learned all of us. I wasn't much of a dramatic change once I got two colors is not just the school it's the family ever coming to the house and I don't know what career I want to pursue and what I want to do with my life not only am I being alive lhasa I'm doing it on my own time my Saturdays and Sundays I'm in downtown working with another TD that I've met and it's all thanks to lhasa and opportunities that is come and giving me amazed at how everyone welcomed me and everyone you took me in and I was like okay this is lost because I didn't get at that at my previous school I love to be in school and I never thought I'd say that but I love to be in school also has made me fall in love with school Los Angeles Highschool of the Arts
